Klaipėda Shore Excursions
Sand dunes and pine forest on the Curonian Spit UNESCO site, Lithuania

Curonian Spit

Curonian Spit from Klaipėda

UNESCO sand dunes 45 minutes from the ferry — extraordinary scenery that needs a full port day to enjoy properly.

Distance

Ferry 10–15 min; Nida 45 min by coach from ferry

Travel time

Roughly 1 hour each way including ferry

Time needed

4–5 hours on the Spit plus transfers

The Curonian Spit is Lithuania's most remarkable natural landscape — a narrow ribbon of sand between the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea, covered in pine forest and crowned by shifting dunes. From Klaipėda, a ferry crossing and coach journey reach Nida village and the dune viewpoints.

Organised tours ferry from Klaipėda to Smiltynė, then coach south to Nida. Expect 6–7 hours total including dune time and a lunch stop. The landscape rewards patience — rushing the Spit on a short call wastes the transfer time.

Dune climbing at Parnidis or nearby viewpoints is the highlight. Nida's fishermen's houses, amber galleries and lagoon views add cultural depth to the natural spectacle.

Return-to-ship confidence

Budget 1 hour for return transfer plus 30 minutes before all-aboard. Avoid the Spit on port calls under 6 usable hours.
